I Can See Clearly Now is a pop-reggae song by the American singer Johnny Nash in 1972 which was released and featured on his album of the same name. It reached number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at number 5 in the UK. It was recorded in London with the Jamaican reggae and soca band The Fabulous Five Inc. Before his huge fame and fortune, reggae legend Bob Marley was the assistant producer of I Can See Clearly Now and was a session player on the album. The song received gold status.

For the film Cool Runnings in 1993, reggae singer Jimmy Cliff recorded a version of I Can See Clearly Now. Cool Runnings is about the Jamaican national bobsled team competing at the Canadian Winter Olympics in 1988. Due to the film’s success, Cliff’s I Can See Clearly Now was released as a single in 1994 peaking at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was also featured in a number of other films such as The Break-Up, Antz, Hitch and Shrek 2.

Around 40 big artists have covered I Can See Clearly Now, including some of the biggest names in the music industry. Artists like Donny Osmond, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Sonny & Cher, The Mamas & The Papas and Willie Nelson have showcased their own versions. Dusty Springfield covered the song but it was never released or published anywhere and unfortunately, the recording was either lost or destroyed.
