I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) Songsheet

Piano Sheet Music

The Scottish twins who make up the band, The Proclaimers wrote and released I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) in 1988 for their album, Sunshine on Leith. Its lyrics are about devotion to the woman you love and wanting to spend the rest of your life with her. I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) is one of The Proclaimers biggest hits, peaking at number 1 in Australia and New Zealand and number 11 in the UK charts. The song featured in the film Benny and Joon, creating its success in the US and peaking at number 3 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) received significant success in 2007 when it was recorded for Comic Relief. Comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas recorded the 2 first verses of the song and The Proclaimers took over for the rest. It had a star-studded, comical video alongside it with Kay as a wheelchair bound Brian Potter who owns the Phoenix Club and Lucas as his famous, also wheelchair bound Little Britain character, Andy Pipkin. The characters carer, Lou Todd also stars in the video and is played by the comedian David Walliams. Many famous faces starred in the video, including The Proclaimers themselves. The likes of music business personalities, Pete Waterman and Louis Walsh showed their faces as well as Coronation Street actors, Sally Dynevor (Sally Webster), Michael Le Vell (Kevin Webster) and Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Stape). Fellow Scotsman, David Tennant also stars in the video wearing a patriotic kilt in support of The Proclaimers. Its success took I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) to the top of the UK charts.
