Jingle Bells Songsheet

Piano Sheet Music

Arguably, Jingle Bells in one of the most popular, well-known and commonly sung Christmas songs around. However, writer James Lord Pierpont actually created the song for the American Thanksgiving. It has since been associated with nothing but Christmas. Pierpont was an American songwriter and composer and is thought to have written Jingle Bells in 1850 in Medford, Massachusetts. There is some evidence to prove otherwise, but the Medford Historical Society claims that Pierpont’s Jingle Bells was written about the sleigh races in the 19th century that took place in the town.

Seeing as Pierpont’s legendary song is one of the most performed and well-liked Christmas songs ever on a global scale, he was given a place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Many artists have sang their own versions of Jingle Bells, including some of the biggest names in the music industry to date. Legends like Louis Armstrong, The Beatles, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra have performed their renditions. Opera singers Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti have also covered Jingle Bells. Bing Crosby, known to cover many Christmas songs, has also sung Jingle Bells. The legendary The Million Dollar Quartet (Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins & Elvis Presley) were another artist to cover this Christmas tune. More recently, British supermarket Iceland have employed jazz/blues singer, Michael Bublé to sing Jingle Bells on their Christmas 2013 television advert.
